Most men who seek male eyelid surgery do so to correct accelerated signs of ageing, including sagging and wrinkled upper eyelid skin and puffy lower lids.
How does male eyelid surgery differ for men?
Surgically, upper and lower blepharoplasty does not differ greatly for men than it does for women. The main difference is the contouring of the upper eyelid, as many men will still want to maintain a ‘masculine’ appearance after the blepharoplasty.

Am I a good candidate for male eyelid surgery?
To be considered for male eyelid surgery, you will need to be above the age of 18 years old. If you are a smoker, you will need to quit smoking at least two weeks before the procedure, as well as during the recovery period. You should have realistic expectations about what male eyelid surgery can achieve.
You may also be a suitable candidate if you:

- Have difficulty seeing due to sagging on the upper eyelid
- Would like to have a more youthful appearance
Men who are considered unsuitable for eyelid surgery include those who have medical problems such as heart issues, eye disease and dry eyes.
What does the male eyelid surgery procedure involve?
The upper eyelid procedure consists of removing excess fat from under the eyebrow, removing excess skin from the lid area, and reconnecting the incised skin with very fine sutures to create a smoother, more youthful appearance in the upper lid. An upper blepharoplasty will generally be performed under a local anaesthetic.
The lower eyelid procedure usually includes removing excess fat from the area above the cheekbone, which may have been causing a puffy and tired look. As this procedure is more detailed, it is usually performed under a general anaesthetic. Centre for Surgery uses the TIVA anaesthetic technique.

The procedure involves getting rid of extra skin and fat to improve the look of your upper eyelids. After trimming away the unnecessary bits, the area is stitched up with super-fine threads.

How long does recovery take after a male blepharoplasty?
After your eyelid surgery, expect to lay low for about a week. You’ll likely prefer staying in, especially since you’ll have some noticeable swelling and bruising. Recovering from surgery on your lower eyelids might take a bit longer than from work done on the upper eyelids. If your upper eyelids were operated on, getting back to work could take about a week, but for lower eyelid surgery, plan for possibly up to two weeks off.
How will I look after a Male Eyelid Lift?
Right after the surgery, expect the swelling around your eyes to be pretty noticeable, and the skin might feel unusually tight. Initially, your eyes might appear a bit asymmetrical or overly tight, but this is just temporary due to the internal stitches.
