Liposuction is a quick and effective treatment for removing bra fat, also known as bra rolls or a bra bulge. Stubborn areas around the broad region can be easily removed with liposuction, resulting in a more defined shape and contour. Liposuction involves the permanent removal of bra fat, which has proven impossible to lose with diet and exercise alone. People who have a genetic tendency to develop bra fat may find it much harder to lose that bra bulge with regular exercise and a healthy diet. Skin laxity is not improved with diet and exercise alone, and loose skin is a common feature of the ageing process. A bra-line back lift may be more suitable for patients with excess skin and bra fat.
Many people are concerned about bra rolls and bra fat, which most commonly appear under the bra line. As a result, women find their bra does not sit properly and can find it uncomfortable wearing tight-fitting or revealing clothing. Certain items of clothing may draw attention to bra fat, which can lead to low self-confidence.
What is bra roll liposuction?
Bra roll liposuction involves using liposuction to remove fat under and around the bra line. There are different types of bra rolls. This includes the bra fat that starts under the arm and spreads across the shoulder. There is also the bra fat that is below the bra. These areas of excess bra fat are often challenging to get rid of simply by eating healthy or following an exercise regime.
Who is suitable for bra fat removal?
Those who are considered good candidates for bra roll liposuction include those who:
- Have excess rolls of fat around the bra line area, also known as a bra bulge
- Are 18 years or older
- Are physically and mentally healthy
- Have a healthy BMI (18.5-24.9)
Bra roll liposuction is not considered an alternative to weight loss and healthy eating. Instead, it is a good addition to your regimen. You will not lose a significant amount of weight with bra roll liposuction; however, you may notice your bra size may decrease as a result of the bra fat removal.
What does bra roll liposuction involve?
Bra roll liposuction will be performed under an anaesthetic known as TIVA. This anaesthetic means you will be asleep during the procedure; however, unlike other types of general anaesthetics, no noxious gases are used. You will also wake up more quickly after the procedure, with less dizziness and drowsiness.
Bra roll liposuction involves using liposuction to remove excess fat from the bra line areas. Bra fat liposuction may be combined with liposuction to other areas such as the love handles, thighs or stomach.
At Centre for Surgery, we use the PAL lipo technique. This is far safer than older liposuction techniques and does not involve heat to remove fat cells. PAL lipo ensures you get the results you want without damaging your body internally or leaving any tell-tale signs of liposuction, such as rippling skin.
To complete the procedure, the surgeon will make a small incision to permit access for the liposuction cannula. The cannulas will be used to create fat tunnels for a local anaesthetic. The cannulas will also separate the fat globules, preserving the delicate stromal network and preventing blood vessels from being damaged, reducing the risk of bruising and bleeding. Smaller cannulas are then used to remove the fat cells. Finally, the remaining fat is sculpted to achieve the best possible, natural-looking results. You will avoid any skin irregularities or bumps that often occur with other liposuction methods. The incision site is then closed and sutured. Any bra bulge is permanently eliminated.
The problem of excess bra fat can be particularly severe in obese and overweight patients who have lost significant amounts of weight and are left with large amounts of loose excess skin. Although liposuction to remove bra fat can still be effective, the procedure may need to be combined with surgical excision to remove the loose skin.
What can I expect during the recovery period after bra fat liposuction?
After bra fat liposuction, it is normal to experience some pain and discomfort, particularly around the incision site. Your surgeon will provide you with appropriate pain medication to take to alleviate symptoms.
You may also experience bruising and swelling, which should resolve within about 10 days. You will be given a compression garment to wear, which will help speed recovery and reduce bruising and swelling. You will need to avoid strenuous exercise for 6 weeks; however, you can resume mild exercise after about 2 weeks.
